Tennis Trakker Pro App Reviews

Good!!

But where is the forced errors that existed before update? That is a big help, because the point can be a winner, forced errors or unforced errors. Its more important than return winner forhand and backhand. So Please put it back to be 5 stars.

Very good, but not perfect

You created the best one in itunes, for doing this job. But you should offer another type of game "format". You offer just a third set or fith set (with or withou tiebreaks), but i am a tennis teatcher and would like to use this with my young students, as their matches are simple ones, they sometimes play just one set, and sometimes they play just tiebreaks (so, you could offer in the software matchs as e a "1 set match" - with or withou ties, and offer too a just "tie-break match", and a just "super-tiebrake match" - like you star that counting 1, 2, 3... until 7 or 10 points). I think its a simple update you can do and, If you really do that, the program will be much more useful, for many tennis teatchers that have the same concern. Thanks, David.

Dubs

Good for everything except doubles. I would add doubles to make it worth the money.

Magazine

Incase you were wondering this is the app that was featured IN the magazine "tennis"

期待通りまであと少し

Thank you for splendid tennis score application. I used it at once. I report a refinement. As for the match of the Japanese youth, 1set and the match of eight games are dominant. I expect correspondence by all means. Users in Japan should increase very much if come true. I expect correspondence by all means. 期待したアプリですが、日本で多い1セット、8ゲームマッチに是非対応してください。そうすれば利用者はもっと増えるはずです。q

Awesome

I needed a tennis stat program so bad i wrote my own. Then I found tennis trakker. Awesome job. Made mine look like a rookie You solved many if the issues I couldnt figure out. Now that Im spoiled with your program, I concurr with previous comments for future versions. Shot placement, volley errors by forehand or backhand, and maybe the ability to have a desktop version that syncs with the iPhone. Also maybe a social networking component or maybe a facebook plugin to share info. Otherwise, it has taken the emotion out of watching my junior play and he is more aware of his shot selection. 4 gold stars!

Tennis parents and coaches friend

This app is great. This app has allowed me to chart my college players matches and they love the statistical feedback. I would like to see an update to be able to choose location of winners, errors and serves. A must for all coaches and tennis parents. Well worth money! Look forward to updates.

USPTA Teaching Coach

Before this using application I would chart my students performance by pencil and paper. Ive used this program on a few of my students, adults and children, and results have been positive. Program has given them quicker insight on where they need work on their game - percentage of first and second serves in, won, unforced errors, et al. I would suggest to implement return of serve error selection. Beginning a point starts with a serve and return of serve. Those are the two most important parts of the game. If you cant get those in, how are you suppose to get an accurate result of ones game? Other suggestions: More detail on volleys- forehand or backhand won/lost selection. Winners - passing shot selection. Service location: T, middle, out wide. Under General Play, chart an aggressive index = winners/forced - unforced errors. Many thanks for this application.

Great - can it be better?

I agree with most of the previous reviews. It really is a very useful little application, and its great to be able to email the stats to the players right after the match. Some elements that could make it better: 1. Multiple "undo" or "back" buttons. If you miss a call or make a mistake, you end up missing points trying to go into the edit mode or trying to figure out a way to fix the mistake. 2. Serve placement 3. Return In or Out (FH or BH) 4. Type of unforced error -- "aggressive, passive..." As another reviewer wrote, maybe the program can have two or three "modes" where the user can choose just how detailed he/she wants to be. The way it works now is probably good for most people, but it would be more useful if it could record more detail. Overall, a great app.

Good but a couple of issues need addressing

I have used this app to track two matches now. Overall, it is quite good and I recommend it although I feel that it is a little expensive for the current feature set. That said, we have already found the statistics to be useful for helping our son develop a better understanding of his game. The things that I like: 1. The statistics display and email capability are quite nice. 2. The user interface if fairly intuitive with easy to read and hit buttons 3. The ability to time the game and points is nice. There are, however, a couple of issues that I would recommend be addressed in future updates. 1. The biggie is that there is no undo so there is no way to correct a mistake and it can get you completely messed up and out-of-sync with the match. This is especially important for tracking junior players. While I marked the outcome of points correctly, the players on occasion make incorrect calls or even get the game score confused and there is no way that I found to fix this in the current app. Likewise, on a couple of occasions I incorrectly scored a point for the wrong player and then couldnt fix it. 2. Related to #1 is the fact that there is an annoying popup to confirm the outcome of each point. This is needed right now because there is no way to fix things if you make a mistake so you need to think twice before confirming the popup. Once there is an "undo" feature, this popup confirmation box should be removed as it will greatly simplify and speed entry. 3. Right now, there is no way to record a service winner. Instead, you have to mark it as a forced error which is okay but I would rather know that it was a service winner. 4. There currently is a way to edit the game score in a given set but there is no way to correct the point score in a game. This would be really nice, again, especially for a junior match where they sometimes score points incorrectly but you still want to capture the correct shot statistics. 5. There should be a "pause" button to stop the game clock if needed. 6. The statistics should also record the time per set and, ideally, the time that each player was serving. 7. You might consider adding the capability to record whether a volley winner/error is forehand or backhand. 8. Another bigger issue is that there are only a limited number of scoring rules available and they dont currently fit well with junior tournament. I would recommend that you either add a significant number of additional rules or allow the user to build a custom rule. For example, the matches that I tracked today were two sets (with 7pt tie-breaks for each) and a 10pt tie-break in lieu of a third set. There should also be the option for no-ad scoring. Hopefully these suggestions will be helpful. Great app, and again recommended.

Great idea, major potential, indispensible

As a competitive junior tennis player, this application has made charting my matches remarkably easy for my parents. The application is perfectly matched with the iPhone/iPod Touch interface, but has a few shortcomings. 1) Return of serve: The return is the second most important shot in the sport, and yet it is given no attention! This is a glaring omission, but its really easy to remedy. Just add a screen between the serve screen and the point-end screen asking what kind of return was made. This would improve the app enormously! 2) Get logical about the design: This app is not super-well thought through. First, there is no way to end a match without starting a new one! One can easily work around this, but its messy and totally unnecessary. Second, as other reviewers have noted, there really should be a pause button for the timer, and a way to go back and fix previous points. Basic, easy to implement, why not? 3) Statistics export: Its all fine and good to get the stats emailed to you, but it would be a major improvement to this app if it could email the results as a .csv file; or, at least, split up the columns so that you have the percentage in one column and the fraction (3/5, for example) in another. This would make it a lot easier to manipulate the data in Excel, for example. These three omissions really hurt the app, but Im really excited about it. The author really _must_ iron out the usability issues, and, to be truly indispensible, the app should track returns. But, overall, Tennis Trakker is really fantastic and a must for any competitive tennis player.

Love this APP! Lots of potential!

To the good people at Portapple LLC: + This is an incredibly useful app. You are doing the world of tennis a service by developing it. You deserve an award! + The BIG buttons are great! Keep using the real estate wisely. - One major request- Previous reviewers suggested replacing the confirmation pop-up with an undo button added to the new point (service) screen. This would be a great improvement to the workflow, not to mention accuracy in the statistics, and should not be overlooked. - The game score (e.g. 15-40) should also be ever-present on the screen during a match, in one form or another. Small when buttons need space, of course. - If possible, the file-management issues below should also be addressed: 1. The inability to resume an old match (for rain delays, et al) 2. The victor should be listed in the stats file (winner is not apparent if there is a default declared by the points leader.) 3. Separation of Unit stats and Percentages into columns is minor, but would be nice. Thank you, and keep up the good work!

Excellent Program

I really wanted to award 5 because this is such a great and valuable program, but awarded 4 only because of a few glaringly oversights, in my humble opinion. The first and foremost, perhaps, is the inability to export to a spreadsheet file (Excel preferably), when obviously the ability is there. It would be so nice to be able to collect these in Excel and assemble an overall statistics file for one player. Secondly, there is no way to change the name of a file once its been saved - I somehow inadvertently misnamed a player and now Im stuck with it. A few other inconveniences: (a) the timer only times between points - move that to the right of the screen and put an overall timer on the left! and (b) the confirm at the end - instead put an undo button somewhere that allows full reversal of a point. Finally, one wish is that when a winner is a volley, you allow another screen that indicates whether it is a backhand volley or a forehand volley. Notwithstanding all of this criticism, I really DO love the program and think it is incredible. Anybody with a son or daughter playing tennis and desiring to improve will benefit from the statistics it produces. And, it takes away some of the parental anxiety you experience when watching a match, not to mention that confusion when its a loss and youre saying, I really dont understand how he/she lost that - you can easily isolate the DFs or unforced errors! Thanks.

Awesome!!

Ditto on many of the return of serve info. What this app needs to be the berries would be the "option" to have a court or service box layout with the ability to touch the screen for shot placement on serves with a location % or average, undo buttons too for the interuptions encountered by chatty social parents who need to say hello. This app is very useful and has great benefits for all players wanting the ins and outs of tennis. Thanks. Would have paid more for the touch screen shot placement and landscape ability!

Worth it

This ap is worth the money and is great for charting my sons matches. I agree with all the previous suggestions. Id add that I would like to be able to see stats for each individual set in addition to the whole match.

Good, but there is room to improve

Good application. My daughter is a Jr. player, and it helps to get good statistical feedback after a match. But, there are some thing missing. Service winners are the first one that comes to mind. So is the ability to use the scoring in a 3rd set 10 point tie-break. Lets hope they update this soon

doubles?

this app needs these things: i play double at every tournament and its not just doubles its VERY important. it even counts towards ranks the percentages on unforced errors are pointless and make very little sense how about service winners??? that was even in the lite version! the stats on net game arent accurate because it divides the overheads and vollies up and wheres the nots section to say bob took momentum here (then, automaticly on the stats, you see that at 5-4 40-love bob took momentum, etc) and why cant i divide the stats into first set, second set, third set? i had a ton of errors in my first set today and that clouded the errors for the ENTIRE match, i cant see how much better i played the second set (statisticly speaking) Any way ive been very negative towards this app, i really love it though its a GREAT app, i would just love to see these improvements...

Great tool!!!

Great product! Some issues: The start page is ackward to use. Want to be able to set server after enter names. Want to be able to edit names after play has started. Found if go back to start page after a set has been played, server order gets reset to initial order. Want to be able to correct/edit point score. .. accidents can happen with a touch screen in the heat of a match. Undo? It would be great to sort saved matches by date, or give option to.

Good App

Its a very good app. It needs an update and doubles. I play doubles a lot and my friend cant track me when I play.

Good app but needs some improvement

First I would like to say that this app really is beneficial and it helps to see the stats after a match in order to find ways to improve. Unfortunately, there are some problems that need improvement. A lot of times in matches especially at the level I play at, there are many forced errors. Yes that are similar to winners, but truely deserve a catagory to themselves. I would also like to see a doubles option when scoring. Lastly, there needs to be an improvement on the edit button like with actual points and the server. In a few matches, the players mess up the score or the wrong person serves, especially after a tiebreaker. It would be nice to be able to fix this. This is a great app, but I think that assumptions of how a match will be played should be brought down to a level that everyday players can use without sacrificing the integrity of the app. Thanks.
